Peachtree Boulevard transformation Phase II underway

Another stretch of Atlanta’s signature street is about to undergo a stunning transformation. Phase II of the Peachtree Boulevard transformation has begun, extending from the Buckhead MARTA station north past Phipps Plaza. After several weeks of utility work, crews have begun removing trees along the route, all to be replaced with 85 quality oak shade trees. Those trees will grow about one foot per year, up to 35 feet.

A look at Phase I (from the other side of Piedmont Road to the MARTA overpass) shows how quickly the new trees we are adding will grow to provide a lush, shaded vista along Peachtree in Buckhead.

The Peachtree Boulevard transformation is the major enhancement of a stretch of Peachtree Road in Buckhead into a more livable, walkable, bikable and drivable promenade. The transformation will allow Peachtree to live up to its reputation as Atlanta’s “signature street.” It will become a destination, not just a throughway.
